我的儿子是深圳中学毕业的，现就读于中山大学，今年毕业，他收到美国好几所大学
的录
取通知书，其中对他有吸引力的是斯坦大学，但没有资助，另一所是世界排名第44位的Rut
gers University，每年有2万多美金（合人民币17万多）的资助，同时还免学费，总共两
校每年相差40万人民币，去那个学校好呢？各位给点意见，我很矛盾。
附两校的录取通知书。
Dear Mr.Wang,
I am pleased to inform you that the Department of Computer Science has
approved your admission to the PhD program with the award of a Teaching
Assistantship, plus a supplementary Fellowship stipend. This extra stipend
is in recognition of your outstanding academic qualifications. You will
soon receive official notification of your admission and other pertinent
information from the Graduate Admissions Office.
This is a two-year award, subject to the condition that you perform
satisfactorily academically and as a teaching assistant. For the (10-month)
academic year 2005/2006, your base salary as a teaching assistant will be
$17,988. The amount of the additional Fellowship stipend is $3,000, for a
total award of $20,988 for 2005/2006. Medical coverage is included in your
Teaching Assistantship, as well as tuition remission.
Teaching assistants participate in teaching and administering both
undergraduate and graduate (for advanced students) courses in a variety of
ways. Many teach recitation sections in support of larger lectures; some
have almost full responsibility for teaching certain undergraduate courses.
We expect that with your strong qualifications, you will be receiving other
good offers. Although a final answer from you is not required until April
15, it would help us greatly with our planning if you could let us know
before then. In particular, we request that you give us at least a
preliminary response (positive, negative, not sure) within two weeks of the
date of this letter. We certainly hope you will be joining us. Please
email your response to the address given below. Also, we will be very happy
to answer any additional questions you might have.

Dear Ying Wang:
The Admissions Committee has reviewed your application for admission to the
Ph.D. program in the Institute for Computational and Mathematical Engineering
at Stanford University. I regret to inform you that despite your impressive
record, the committee was unable to recommend you for admission. The number
of applicants to our small program always far exceeds the number of those we
can admit. The process of making choices is difficult and painstaking,
inevitably, each year many strong candidates have to be turned down.
We are, however, pleased to inform you that the Admissions Committee has
recommended that you be admitted to the Masters program beginning Autumn
Quarter 2005. Congratulations! The doctoral program in ICME is open to the MS
students successfully completing the qualifying exams. As an MS student you
would be eligible to take the Ph.D. qualifying exam at the end of your first
year as the course requirements for both programs in the first year are
identical. A third of the current doctoral students have been recruited from
our Masters program! Every year we have several masters students who
successfully transfer into the doctoral program. While we do not offer
financial aid to our MS students, there are many opportunities across the
university for finding research assistantships.
You will soon be receiving confirmation and additional information from the
Stanford Graduate Admissions Office. All offers of admission are contingent
upon approval by the Registrar's Office.

以他的实力在无论在什么学校都会有作为啊。而且那学校又不是很差...

我觉得来这里问应该得不到他想要的比较客观的回答吧！
毕竟，常上这里的都是学生居多，真正对这两家学校都有深刻了解的应该不多罢？！

我相信那位老师心里早有答案了，那就是-----斯坦大学，只不过趁机小晒一下罢了，
作为知识分子 谁能抵挡住名牌，更何况是世界名牌的大学

有位网友跟我说，斯坦福是世界名校，Rutgers University是美国名校， 如果在美国发展
，斯坦福和Rutgers University 差不多，否则，差别很大。

说的对，当时高考的时候，他没去成北大，去了中大，现在看来也未必是坏事，
如果他去了北大，未必就能拿到斯坦福的录取通知书，毕竟北大的竞争更激烈。
